...and says that it would be "difficult" to enter "songwriting mode". Sad
Quote:MetalTalk.net recently conducted an interview with former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Kenneth "K.K." Downing. You can now watch the chat in three parts below. A couple of excerpts follows (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether he missed being on the road and playing music for the fans:

Downing: "People say to me all the time, they say, 'Well, do you miss it? Go on. I know that you miss it.' And my response is the fact that after a 40-year full-on career of going non-stop, then I'm not going to miss it in the first week or month or even a year. But I guess there will come a time where I will probably think…

"I just received a really nice letter today from a guy in Costa Rica. And it was really nice to read the letter, saying that he kind of missed me in PRIEST and stuff like that. And when that happens, then it does become more and more difficult for me to take the fact that I'm no longer a part of all that. And who knows what the future holds? I mean, I don't know.

"I guess, in the scheme of things, I still consider myself to be relatively young and strong, dare I say that. And, as they say, maybe there's plenty of life left in the old dog. Who knows? But it was a long career, and the way that the industry has gone, certainly not for the better, but, obviously, as everyone knows, live performances are still fanstastically…

"If nothing else, I think that the validity of live touring and performances is stronger and more in demand than ever, really. So that's very, very healthy. At least everybody can go out there and do some live performances. And that's what bands enjoy best anyway."

On whether he keeps in touch with his former JUDAS PRIEST bandmates:

Downing: "A little bit here and there. It was just one of those situations. It's a long time — 40 years is a long, long time…

"It would certainly be difficult for me to go back into a 'songwriting and record' mode, I think, because of… I think of how much, when I look back, of how much has been achieved in that amount of time, the task of trying to get bigger and better and more unique becomes more and more of a monumental task. And I must say that when I go and see favorite bands of mine, I want them to play the songs that I know and I love, not the songs that I haven't heard yet. Will I get to grow to like these [new songs]? Well, yes, maybe. But certainly, in a live performance, you wanna rock out and sing along."

On the highlights of his time with JUDAS PRIEST:

Downing: "Probably all of it. It's like anything else. I always kind of think of, like, what's the worst and the best holiday you've ever had? If somebody had a really disastrous holiday, and you asked that person what were the highlights of that holiday years later, they probably would have said the worst things that happened were good highlights, as well as the best things. So, lots of laughs and lots of tear and the whole thing. Just collectively put together, very, very fondly cherished memories… You know, cleaning your teeth in the snow. On the side of a field in Norway, and I can remember… And it did happen, it did happen, before you get to go back to sleep in the back of the van. [The fact] that we probably had a few beers before helps things a little bit. The party has to go on."

Quote:Swedish metal band PORTRAIT has recorded a cover version of a JUDAS PRIEST song that has never been released by the legendary British heavy metal band. The track "Mother Sun" appears on PORTRAIT's CD single "We Were Not Alone", which is being sent out exclusively to subscribers with the May issue of Sweden Rock Magazine.

"When first deciding to record a cover song for a bonus track for this exclusive release, the choice of band was obvious as JUDAS PRIEST is to blame for the birth of PORTRAIT in the first place," says PORTRAIT guitarist Christian Lindell.

"Instead of doing something completely unnecessary, like recording a song that they themselves have already perfected on some of their own album releases, we chose to record 'Mother Sun' as that song for obscure reasons has remained unreleased.

"This JUDAS PRIEST song is only available on two bootleg recordings of poor sound quality, even though it was frequently played live in the mid-'70s.

"The song itself is a fantastic, QUEEN-like epic, with Rob Halford doing one of his most impressive vocal performances ever.

"Even if the style of the song is somewhat different from what we do ourselves, it isn't too far-fetched to believe that a PORTRAIT ballad would sound something along those lines, would we ever write one."

I knew the existence of the "Mother Sun" track, i just looked up and it was supposed to be on "Rocka Rolla", but i guess the tapes for this song was lost, sounds like it could of fit right in with the first two or third albums, anyways, i just heard this little sample, sounds good, you don't get bands covering unreleased songs by legendary bands.

Judas Priest is no Metallica, but I hold their current career in low regard. Relative to the latter, it's still fairly high, but they will never be like what they were for British Steel or Painkiller.
It just happens. When you're angry, poor, creative, daring, and young, especially if you do something that hasn't been done before, things can only go well for you. Priest is rich, famous, old school, and plainly old. They're consistently one-upped by Iron Maiden (to me anyway) and their style is plain, vanilla heavy metal in an era where everyone is an asshat about melotechnological progressive-liberal deathground-meat black-pride BFG 9000 asscore. So while they're probably better than some today, if it's just Nostradamus Part 2 or something akin to it (that is, operatic Halford vocals with a lot of guitar solos but with nothing particularly interesting going on besides stroking glam-cum-thrash-cum-power metallers' 50 year old withered dicks) then I can't see this being a particularly major release.

I think British Steel is the best one followed by Defenders and Screaming.. guitar and vocals are just .. WOW!! nothing else be said. First song I ever hear is Electric Eye, a song thats saying HEAVY METAL!!!

I'm gonna be honest here, my favourite album is "Stained Class", but it's hard to even pick a true favourite, i'll admit, their '70's output was abit stronger, but that does not mean it's more 10x better than their '80's, '90's (well maybe if you count the Tim "Ripper" Owens albums, but i need to hear those album in full to really make my mind) and '2000's output, but i have to get this off my chest, i feel "Defenders of the Faith" is abit more consistant than "Screaming for Vengeance", oh and i like "Some Heads are Gonna Roll", sure it has a glam feeling, but the lyrics are far from being that, but that is my opinion, anyways, there are so many i like.

Tough call because so many of them are extremely varied, but I would probably go with Stained Class as the most perfect Priest album. Sad Wings was my favorite for a long time, and I would still say is the best for the early sound (I consider Stained Class the beginning of the "80's Priest" sound). Screaming For Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, and Painkiller are also high up there

It's a decent song, but sounds more like a solo "Halford" track. I do hope that it is better than that. Also, I hope he can hit some better notes on the later songs.

I played the song before heading to bed, i can honestly say, that it's good at best, did remind me abit of something off of "Painkiller" but at the sametime i was reminded of Halford's "Made of Metal", like the song is a leftover, anyways, good track, can't wait to hear the rest.

Get well soon, Metal God! Hand
Quote:JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford has revealed to ABC News Radio that he has an umbilical hernia that he intends to have repaired because "it looks like the alien just burst forth!"

Halford said: "My doctors always said, 'We can take care of it,' and I said, 'I'll get around to it.' [The doctor said,] 'If it's not giving you any discomfort then you should leave it as it is,' but it's not very appealing to look at, is it?"

Halford remains in good spirits about his condition, telling ABS News Radio: "That's life. The wonderful thing about heavy metal music is that it's immortal. The music is immortal, but the creators are not bestowed with that attribute."

The 62-year-old musician was last year seen hobbling around with the aid of a walking stick. He told RollingStone.com at the time: "I've got a bit of a back issue, which is fixable. Thank the lord it's not happening while we're touring, because we'd be in a terrible state.

"But apart from that, everything is working fine. My voice... is wailing. It's strong, it's powerful... I'm 99.999 per cent working."

Recalling a meeting with his longtime friends Lemmy and Rob Trujillo at the 2013 edition of the Revolver Golden Gods awards in Los Angeles, Halford said: "I'm in the dressing room... and Lemmy's sitting across from me. Lemmy, God bless him, is going through heart difficulties.

"I'm comparing my ailments with Lemmy, and Rob, the bass player from METALLICA, is doing these stretches... I don't know, these guys, a guitar is 15 pounds, and when you've got that slung around your neck for two-and-a-half hours a day — I think it's just degenerative. It's accumulative injuries.

"There's no difference from some aspects of sports. You think of a golf player just hitting a ball — 'Well, that can't be too strenuous.' But it is. It's incredibly strenuous when you do that for 40 years. You're going to have a few nicks and bruises."

It's not like it's the worst thing I ever heard, but it's still a bit unmemorable. The chorus riff sounds kinda catchy, but this is like a cheap shot at imitating "United".

Yes I agree, feels like they're trying to have an anthemic song for this album like "United" or "Take On The World" but it's a bit dull and lacks feeling.
