[Post-Black/Avant-Garde Black Metal] Ved Buens Ende (NO)
Ved Buens Ende was probably the first ever experimental/avant-garde black metal group. Their lone album, Written in Waters, was released in the same time period (1995) as many of the classic second-wave black metal albums but it sounds nothing like any of their Norwegian peers. There's a strong prog influence, extensive use of dissonance, and overall it's just really pretty weird. This is the pioneering group for all the weird dissonant/technical black metal groups that came later. There's a bandcamp page for their one album up here.

Occasionally, I write Western and Japanese music reviews.
